WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE ARTISTS TO LISTEN TO RIGHT NOW?
CYANCA: I just found this rapper named Trevor Spitta who is really hard. I’ve been listening to him a lot. Don Toliver, Jordan Ward, LAYA, and Ab-soul, and Brandy to name a few.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY INSPIRED YOU TO GET INTO MUSIC? WHERE DO YOU HOPE TO GO WITH YOUR MUSIC?
CYANCA: Church. I spent most of my childhood in my family church and that’s where I fell in love with playing music at the age of 6. My father taught me the history of hip-hop and R&B and that sparked me wanting to pursue music fully.
HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?
CYANCA: Success to me used to be a big house, marriage, financial stability but as I get older it’s more so about following God and fulfilling the purpose he has for me and serving others.
WHEN DID YOU FEEL CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO BEGIN TO SHARE YOUR MUSIC WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY?
CYANCA: After I recorded my second song Recipe I shared it with my best friend who is a music guru and she went crazy! She was like this is amazing! So I dropped it on SoundCloud and it gained a lot of attention I wasn’t expecting. I felt invincible after that.
WHAT DOES STYLE MEAN TO YOU?
CYANCA: I approach style with fluidity and grace. Besides music, fashion is a space where there are no rules for me and I can dress how I feel. Jay-z said, “I might wear black for a year straight.” My first thought was I can wear what I want and who is going to stop me?
