Empowering Style and Inclusivity Through Sneakers
Meet Kiara, the founder of Chic in Sneaks, a platform dedicated to encouraging Black and Brown women to embrace their personal style while incorporating sneakers. With a commitment to representation and inclusivity, Kiara is an advocate for underrepresented women in the sneaker community.
How would you describe your personal style?
KIARA: I definitely lean more toward a sporty chic vibe. I enjoy being comfortable but also love to add a good flair or wow factor to any outfit.
What is the best advice you can give to someone who is just now trying to find their own personal style?
KIARA: Have fun while discovering your personal style. So many times we have a tendency to use social media to find our personal style instead of looking inward. Ask yourself, “What makes you feel good? What empowers you to conquer the day?” There’s nothing wrong with finding inspo online but start with shopping your closet. Look for pieces that are transitional through occasions and seasons + build from there. The more intentional you are with building your closet, you’ll be able to wear the pieces you love in different ways vs leaning more toward fast fashion.
What are some go-to pieces that you wear all the time?
KIARA: You will always catch me with jewelry! Earrings, necklaces, and rings are non-negotiable for me. It elevates any outfit!
If you could raid anyone’s closet, who would it be and why?
KIARA: Too many people! I’d raid Teyana Taylor’s closet. Her style is bold, edgy, and very reflective of her personality. I’d also raid Rihanna’s as well. Her outfits make statements while being timeless.
Do you have any particular clothing items or accessories that hold sentimental value for you? What's the story?
KIARA: Yes! My grandma always wore a gold Nefertiti necklace when I was growing up and when she passed recently, I knew it was something I had to have. I don’t wear it often, but it’s something that is worth more than money can buy.
Through her sporty chic vibe and empowering fashion advice, Kiara inspires us to have fun while discovering our own personal style. With a passion for jewelry and an appreciation for sentimental pieces, she reminds us that style is not just about fashion, but also about the stories we carry with us.
