#APBMusic: JETSONMADE
Straight outta Columbia, SC, JetsonMade is more than a producer – he's a trailblazer putting the South on the map. Crafting unforgettable hits with his signature blend of heavy 808s and dynamic melodies, each of his songs resonates from local streets to international charts. With a producer tag recognized by many, it serves almost as a warning – 'Jetson made another one,' and fortunately, he’s not stopping anytime soon.
In an exclusive Q&A, the Grammy-nominated musician provides insight into his creative process, emphasizing the importance of confidence and embracing individuality. From reflections on future goals to his mission of unearthing the next new sound, JetsonMade takes us behind the scenes, revealing who he is as an artist and how he crafted beats that define an era.
HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU MADE YOUR FIRST BEAT AND WHEN DID YOU FEEL CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO BEGIN TO SHARE YOUR MUSIC?
JetsonMade: I was 14 when I made my first beat, and it took me about two or three days to finish. I let my mom, grandma, and uncles hear it, so I was never shy about sharing my beats, just a little nervous.
I grew up playing the drums in church and sharing my music with the world, so my music has always been based on people's reactions.
HOW DID YOU BUILD YOUR SOUND?
J: Building my sound came with time. I never wanted to sound like anyone or do what others were doing. My sound came naturally from being myself and just doing me.
HOW DO YOU PERSONALLY DEFINE SUCCESS, AND WHAT MILESTONES OR ACHIEVEMENTS MARK SUCCESS FOR YOU?
J: I have a lot of platinum and diamond records, and Grammy nominations that have been a part of my success. But, being able to continue to do what I'm known to do without being measured by milestones defines success for me.
WHAT IS THREE MUST HAVES IN THE STUDIO?
J: I have to have my laptop, my mouse, and aux cords to make one of them ones.
HOW DO YOU THINK FASHION AND MUSIC GO HAND AND HAND?
J: I think fashion and music are a representation of your creativity. You go to your closet and pick this piece to go with another piece and when I'm in the studio I'm picking different types of instruments to go with the beat I'm making, so it's all about how creative you can get.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 5-10 YEARS?
J: I want to get in CEO mode and have my own label. Continuing doing what I'm doing, but in a coach's seat! Finding another Jetson Made and Dababy duo. Finding the young artists and producers that are looking for an opportunity and giving it to them.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR YOU?
J: More platinum and diamond records. I want a song that goes number one and a Grammy, so what's next is trying to achieve those two things and more!
