In 1969, Rei Kawakubo founded Comme des Garçons. With a background in textiles, her unique silhouettes give CDG its signature aesthetic across eight diffusion labels. Each diffusion label includes a unique identity and philosophy, the lines include SHIRT, Comme des Garçons Comme des Garçons, BLACK, perfumes, leather goods, the collections of Junya Watanabe and PLAY.
The PLAY line launched in 2002 described by the label as "a sign, a symbol, a feeling". The iconic logo was designed by artist Polish artist Filip Pagowski.
Designed by Rei Kawakubo, PLAY isn't tied to a particular season and includes graphic t-shirts, knits and accessories. The pieces make use of a simple color palette with different variations of Pagowski's logo. Since launching, the company has had collaborations with different companies including Converse and BAPE.
