#APBMusic: Tymain Robbins

From the small town of Bolton, NC, Tymain Robbins channels his roots into raw, authentic music. Influenced by legends like Jay-Z and J. Cole, he began sharing his story at age 11. Robbins’ style, both musically and in fashion, reflects his life's highs and lows—constantly evolving while staying true to himself. With unwavering confidence and a vision to transcend time, he’s not just making music; he’s crafting a legacy meant to inspire and uplift others along the way.

HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU MADE YOUR FIRST SONG, AND WHEN DID YOU FEEL CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO BEGIN TO SHARE YOUR MUSIC?
TYMAIN: I was 9 when I first stepped into a studio. My dad and uncle owned a club together and had a studio in the backroom. But at 11, I felt a lot of confidence to share my own music so I performed at a school talent show. By 13, I was selling my CDs at school, birthday parties, and my family and friends supported me.

Seeing people vibe with my music, was when I knew I had something to share with the world.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE ARTISTS OR PROJECTS THAT YOU HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO?
T: I'm always vibing with Hov, K. Dot and J. Cole, but right now I’ve been listening to a lot of Samara Cyn. Also, I’ve been diving into “How Much a Piece of Mind Costs” and “The Calm” by LaRussell and Chris Patrick’s. Their hustle truly speaks to me. I’m always staying inspired by artists who push boundaries and stay true to their roots.

HOW DO YOU PERSONALLY DEFINE SUCCESS, AND WHAT MILESTONES OR ACHIEVEMENTS MARK SUCCESS FOR YOU?
T: Success is waking up joyous every day and doing what I love while staying true to myself. It's about inspiring others to pursue their dreams or go harder at the things they love. My milestones are collaborations with brands like Dreamville, The Digilogue, REVOLT, Footlocker, and Beats By Dre. But real success is when someone tells me my music helped them through a tough time or inspired them to chase their own dreams.
WHAT’S YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS LIKE?
T: My creative process is a journey. I start with an idea, a feeling, a conversation, or a beat and I let it evolve naturally. I draw from my life experiences, the stories around me, and even the random thoughts that hit me.

I jot everything down, build on the ideas, and begin to let the music shape the story. I take my time to craft my lyrics because I want my music to feel like an experience rather than just a track.

But, then there’s times when I write a song in like 15 minutes lol.

HOW DO YOU CONNECT WITH YOUR AUDIENCE?
T: I connect through my honesty and storytelling. I try to be as real and relatable as possible, sharing my experiences and emotions openly. Also, curating experiences with every project that I release, social media, and live performances give me a chance to interact with people directly.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE NEXT 5-10 YEARS?
T: In 5 to 10 years, I see myself as a staple in the music industry, not just for music but for my impact and the stories I tell. I want my music to transcend time and to be a blueprint for authenticity and resilience.

Overall, I hope to continue evolving.
